Description

Hot Dip Galvanized Steel Coil is produced by passing Cold Rolled Steel Coil through a Molten bath of Zinc at temperatures of around 460 degrees Celsius. The Zinc coating on the steel coil substrate acts as a barrier between the atmosphere and the surface of the metal. Further due to it’s lower chemical potential as compared to Iron(Fe), it is attacked and dissolved first, thereby offering superior corrosion resistance (cathodic protection).
ASTM A 653/A 653M is a standard specification for hot-dip galvanized steel coils. It sets the requirements for the composition and quality of the zinc coating to ensure consistent performance and durability.
The Zinc Coating Mass Range of SISCO steel is between 40 gsm – 360 gsm (grams per square meter of sheet metal). The Surface Finish & Visual Appearance of the Zinc coating of Gi Coils can be:
Available Surface Finishes:
  • Regular Spangle
  • Minimized or Minimal Spangle
  • Zero Spangle (Extra Smooth)

Frequently Asked Questions

How is Hot Dip Galvanized Steel Coil produced?

It is produced by passing Cold Rolled Steel Coil through a molten bath of Zinc at temperatures of around 460 degrees Celsius.

How does the zinc coating protect the underlying steel?

The Zinc coating acts as a physical barrier against the atmosphere. Furthermore, due to its lower chemical potential compared to Iron (Fe), it is attacked and dissolved first, offering superior cathodic corrosion protection.

What are the available surface finishes for the zinc coating?

The surface finish of the Zinc coating can be supplied as Regular Spangle, Minimized/Minimal Spangle, or Zero Spangle (Extra Smooth).

Which standards do these galvanized steel coils conform to?

They conform to major international standards including ASTM A653/A653M (American standard), JIS G 3302 (Japanese standard), and BS EN 10346:2009 (European standard).

What is the range of zinc coating weight and sizes available?

The zinc coating weight ranges from 40 to 350 g/m². The thickness ranges from 0.1 to 1.5mm, and the width ranges from 600 to 1500mm.
