Description

Hot Dip Galvanized Steel Coil is produced by passing Cold Rolled Steel Coil through a Molten bath of Zinc at temperatures of around 460 degrees Celsius. The Zinc coating on the steel coil substrate acts as a barrier between the atmosphere and the surface of the metal. Further due to it’s lower chemical potential as compared to Iron(Fe), it is attacked and dissolved first, thereby offering superior corrosion resistance (cathodic protection).
Standard Specification: ASTM A 653/A 653M is a standard specification for hot-dip galvanized steel coils. It sets the requirements for the composition and quality of the zinc coating to ensure consistent performance and durability.
The Zinc Coating Mass Range of SISCO steel is between 40 gsm – 360 gsm (grams per square meter of sheet metal). The Surface Finish & Visual Appearance of the Zinc coating of Gi Coils can be categorized as:
  • Regular Spangle
  • Minimized or Minimal Spangle
  • Zero Spangle (Extra Smooth)

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Hot Dip Galvanized Steel Coil?
Hot Dip Galvanized Steel Coil is manufactured by passing Cold Rolled Steel Coil through a molten zinc bath at approximately 460 degrees Celsius. This process coats the steel to provide exceptional protection against atmospheric corrosion.
How does the zinc coating protect the base steel?
The zinc coating serves as a physical barrier shielding the steel from the environment. Additionally, because zinc has a lower chemical potential than iron, it acts as a sacrificial anode, corroding first to protect the underlying steel (cathodic protection).
What standards apply to these galvanized steel coils?
The coils conform to major international standards including ASTM A653/A653M (American), JIS G 3302 (Japanese), and BS EN 10346:2009 (European) for continuously hot-dip coated steel flat products.
What are the available surface finishes for the zinc coating?
The visual appearance and surface finish of the zinc coating can be customized as Regular Spangle, Minimized/Minimal Spangle, or Zero Spangle (Extra Smooth).
What dimensions and thickness options are available?
We supply galvanized steel coils with thicknesses ranging from 0.1mm to 1.5mm and widths from 600mm to 1500mm, with coil weights between 3 to 7 tons.
What are the primary applications of galvanized steel coils?
They are widely used in building roofing, window profiles, automotive manufacturing, and as the base metal sheet for color-coated steel products.
